Wonderful early English pewter charger bearing the touchmark of George Lowes of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, an English pewterer active approximately 1725–1765.
Dating to the mid-18th century, c1750, this substantial charger features a broad, molded rim, shallow basin, and beautifully aged silvery-gray patina. The reverse retains the maker’s circular touchmark above the LOWES name, along with old hand-scratched markings.
Good antique condition with extensive surface scratches, scattered dings, pitting, oxidation, and wear consistent with age and use. Old incised markings and later protective felt pads on the reverse.
📏 16½” diameter × 1½” deep.
A beautiful piece of early English pewter, ideal for display in a primitive cupboard, on a mantel, or as part of an early country antiques collection. Its generous proportions, historic maker’s mark, and wonderfully timeworn character make it a distinctive decorative piece.
