Beautiful 19th-century Log Cabin quilt pieced in a wonderful assortment of period cotton prints, including calicos, paisleys, checks, stripes and small-scale florals in rich browns, reds, greens, blues and creams. The repeating blocks are anchored by charming red-and-white striped centers, creating a wonderfully graphic overall design.
The quilt measures 69x86” and is hand quilted and backed in a brown floral print. The variety of fabrics and subdued palette are characteristic of the late 19th century, and I would date this example to approximately 1870–1890.
Condition: This is a very delicate antique quilt showing considerable evidence of age and use. There are areas of fabric loss and deterioration, particularly around the perimeter, with batting exposed in several sections. Additional scattered wear is present throughout. The reverse shows areas of fading and discoloration. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
Despite its fragile condition, this is a wonderfully authentic early quilt with an exceptional collection of period fabrics and a beautifully aged appearance ideal for display or a textile collection.
