Wonderful Southern Appalachian ribbed egg basket, hand woven in what appears to be split white oak. Features a classic rounded form with an arched bentwood handle, wrapped rim and beautifully aged natural surface. It measures 9” x 8” and stands 7 1/2” tall.
Condition: Good antique condition with expected surface wear and dryness. Scattered small breaks and losses to the splints are present, particularly around the rim and body, as photographed. Handle is secure and the basket remains structurally intact.
A wonderful piece of early Appalachian utilitarian basketry with beautiful form and untouched patina.
