A beautiful primitive bentwood grain measure featuring soft, weathered blue paint, an overlapping nailed seam, and a circular wooden base. Areas of exposed wood highlight the textured grain, giving this everyday utilitarian piece wonderful country character.
Its low, rounded form makes it a lovely display piece for a cupboard, tabletop, or shelf, either on its own or alongside other early woodenware.
Estimated age: Mid-to-late 19th century, circa 1880–1900, based on its construction and visible wear. The age of the paint shows some age but is not original.
Condition: Wear consistent with age and use, including paint loss, scratches, splits and lifting along the overlapping seam, and chips and losses around the edges. The unpainted interior shows staining and wear, with a visible split in the wooden base. Please review all photographs for details.
