A charming early 1900s antique Churn Dash quilt featuring a wonderful assortment of early fabrics in shades of red, pink, indigo blue, black and cream. The individually pieced blocks are arranged against the sweetest white-and-pale-green floral background, creating a lovely contrast with the colorful antique prints. A faded red sashing frames the quilt beautifully.
The hand quilting is particularly lovely, with wonderfully dense diagonal quilting throughout. The quilt has a soft, beautifully aged appearance and is finished with red binding and a simple cream backing.
Condition: This quilt shows honest wear consistent with its age. Two blocks have areas of fabric loss exposing the batting, and there is additional wear along the red-and-white fabric in one area, as photographed. Please review all photographs for condition details.
Despite these imperfections, this is a wonderful example of early American quiltmaking, with beautiful fabrics, intricate hand quilting and plenty of antique character.
