A handsome primitive wooden mortar and pestle with wonderfully worn red paint dates to the late 1800s. The mortar features a substantial cylindrical form with turned detailing around the base, paired with a wooden pestle displaying a ringed handle and the rich surface wear of years of use.
A full-height crack runs down one side of the mortar; it remains very stable. Additional wear includes scattered paint loss, scratches, and small chips along the base. The pestle shows surface wear and rounding to the working end. Please review all photographs for details.
A lovely addition to an early country cupboard or a collection of antique woodenware, with warm color and simple, utilitarian charm.
Dimensions: Mortar: 7” tall by 5 1/2” in diameter. Pestle: 9 inches long by 2 1/2” wide
