A charming little theorem featuring a basket overflowing with fruit, purple grapes, pink tulips, and blue flowers, framed in a wonderfully warm frame with a decorative grained finish. 🤎
The handwritten note on the reverse identifies the piece as “Tiny Basket with Grapes” and explains that it was stenciled on velveteen using the traditional technique employed around 1830. This piece carries on that early folk-art style; its actual date of creation is undocumented.
Initialed at the lower right, with soft colors and lovely detail throughout. The frame shows scattered finish wear, and the pale fabric ground has some age toning. Please review the photographs for details.
Framed dimensions: 4x6”
A sweet addition to a country cupboard, gallery wall, or collection of folk art.
